Staithes is now famous for
once being the home of Captain James Cook where he worked as an assistant to the merchant
William Sanderson for 18 months from 1745 and it is hard to avoid the pull of
the sea as you walk along the harbour front or explore the beach and rock pools.
Luckily the village is well served with restaurants, bistros, cafes, pubs and coffee shops to build
you up before and after exploring the area.

Inland from Staithes is the beautiful
North York Moors National park with its pretty villages and bustling market
towns while just a few miles down the coast is the ancient port of Whitby,
pretty Robin Hood's Bay and the bustling resort of Scarborough.
A week just might not be long enough!
